KARACHI: Sindh Government on late Saturday night issued notification of Land Revenue Amendment Ordinance (LRAO) 2011, Geo News reported. In the Ordinance, Karachi division has been resorted to its City District as on before July 08,2011 position. According to the notification issued by Sindh Land Revenue Department, Hyderabad, under the previous mechanism, has been given a status of division and has been divided into eight districts. These districts included district Hyderabad, district Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiyari, Badin, Thatta, Jamshoro and district Dadu. Mirpurkhas division has been divided into four district that included district Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar Mithi, Umerkot and district Sanghar. Districts of Sukkur division included Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushero Feroz and district Benazirabad, while Larkana division included district Larkana, Qambar/Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and district Kashmore. Every division excluding Karachi has been divided into its old district-format – as at the time of commissionerate system in place. After the local bodies election of 2001 former president Pervez Musharraf brought an end to the commissionerate through an ordinance. Under the 17th Amendment it was protected by constitution. But the current government through the 18th Amendment gave the power of it’s restoration to the provinces. Earlier on Saturday, Sindh Government has promulgated Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO) 1979 to restore Commissionerate System in Sindh. Acting Governor Sindh Nisar Khuhro signed SLGO 1979 besides two acts including the amended Land Revenue Act 1967 and Police Act 1861.Sindh Government has suspended Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2000 and Police Order 2002 with immediate effect.
