FIA investigation officer summoned in NICL case'

LAHORE – Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court on Friday summoned for July 13 the investigation officer of the Federal Investigation Agency on a petition which one of the top accused in the NICL scam Habib Ullah Warraich has moved praying for direction to the FIA to put his name off the Exit Control List (ECL) and return his passport so that he could go aboard for the medical treatment which was not available in the country.
The court was told by the law officer last day that Habib Ullah, who is on bail by this court, has yet to return Rs 420 million of the alleged embezzled amount. He said that his name was put on the ECL and his passport was withheld only as a precaution so that he may not slip out of the country without paying back the money. Counsel for the FIA told the court that all the matter relating to the petitioner’s case is in the knowledge of the officer who among four, has been transferred to another station. On this, the court summoned the said officer of the Agency under all circumstances to know from him the factual position of the case and the extent of the role the petitioner had in the case as per the Agency investigations.
The petitioner counsel argued before the court that his client was willing to give as surety 803kanals of his land therefore his name may be lifted from the List as he and his spouse have to go for medical treatment abroad which was urgently required. It may be mentioned here that initially the matter came up for hearing before the Bench of Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry but he declined to take up the hearing for some personal reasons. After that the case was shifted for hearing to the present Bench.
